Giving Prizes Should Be A Tradition!

Every year MWD chops the head off an innocent bunny with a cleaver. And he can get away with it, because it’s a tradition.  For the sake of full disclosure, it is always on Easter day and I’m pretty sure the bunny was eating up Farmer McGregor’s vegetables.
In the Devers household we have dozens if not hundreds of traditions ranging from the standard issue (opening presents on Christmas morning) to the less common (playing hooky on Opening Day) and even a few bizarre (shaking a cleaver over a limp chocolate …

10 on 10 – June ‘11

Sassy officially died this week. She was my Sony Vaio that I got in early 2007.  Sassy II is up and running. My lightroom works so much faster! With lots of help from my sweet MWD. Happy Clair! Many more pictures to come. I might even update my family website (WHAT??). June 10th was kind of boring. I tried not to take a bunch of work pictures since that is what I mostly did, but I still tried to find the beauty in my day.

10 on 10 – May ‘11

It’s been a while since I did a 10 on 10 or even wrote in my blog. Hopefully I can get back to it now that I’m getting my new job figured out. These probably were exactly every hour – today was a work day, so kind of a boring 10, but I’m getting back to it . . .

The explanation: I learned about 10 on 10 from Alysha Gray (in January via Twitter, see my other 10 on 10’s) and believe it was started by Rebekah.  As Rebekah says “take a photo once …

10 on 10 – February ‘11

I totally missed the January ten and almost the February one as well. I started a new job this week and spent part of the day training. I didn’t exactly do these every hour. Mostly stuff from my house throughout the day.

10 on 10 – December

My computer issues came to a head this morning when I tried to work on my pictures from our Disney World trip and realized it wasn’t my computer that was messed up (still old and crappy), but my external drive I have ALL of my pictures on. I was devastated at first thinking I was going to lose years of pictures (there were tears). I’m pretty lucky though. MWD knows how important my photos are to me and has been working on it for hours. He has recovered all but the …

10 on 10 – November

I’m a little late with my 10 on 10 this month. I’ve had computer issues and editing photos seems to make my computer freeze up, so I am two short – I made it up. I am hoping that I can get a fancy Macbook sometime next year. Until then I will keep on trying. Don’t worry – I’m still taking the pictures. Even if I can’t edit them yet.

Deconstructing Co-writes

“Of course George Strait wrote ‘Desperately!’”

This is what happens when you talk music outside of the bubble, as I did recently while visiting family who don’t really look beyond Top 40 country radio for their daily musical fix.

I think of it as more of a blister than a bubble actually, because after spending the last decade working within this genre, I notice there is thick skin that separates us from the outside world. The community within the Texas/Americana music scene understands the importance of the songwriter to the whole equation in a way that makes us feel connected. And maybe it makes me feel a little superior; I know a “secret,” and even if I share

Deconstructing The Zone

“You definitely missed your turnoff by about 10 miles … just head on back and take 12 through Wimberley. You’ll be here in no time.”

That missed turn was the prettiest detour I’ve ever taken. I was heading to the Zone recording studio by invitation of Walt Wilkins to watch as he and John Greenberg work on the new Mystiqueros album. During the drive I recalled the first time I heard about the Zone, in the summer of 2007, when both Wilkins and Lloyd Maines (separately) bragged about the treasure they had found. Maines was producing the Mystiqueros’ first record (Diamonds In The Sun) and Wilkins convinced him to try a new place; they were both smitten with the studio. From that moment on, it seems that word of the Zone spread through the Texas music terrain

10 on 10 – September

I actually did this 10 on 10, but I just didn’t make time to post it until now. Only 17 days late – oopsie. It was a weird day for me all around; I wasn’t feeling the 10 on 10 experience. Also - I had to take a few with the cell phone – call you tell which ones?

10 on 10 – August

I’m pretty impressed that I have not missed a 10 on 10 since I started.  We had a quick and unexpected visit from my friend and step-monster, Carrie (AKA: Nonna). She is always fun to be around and has a great attitude that rubs off on me and helps keep me positive. I wish we lived closer! The kids and I had to finish up some back-to-school shopping, so Nonna wondered the outlet mall (she’s a pro) while we finished up. Laid back, fun day. Plenty of beauty in our …
